Depending on coverage, it can cover:

  • Lost or damaged or delayed baggage
  • Valuables, spectacles/sunglasses
  • Personal money, passports & documents
  • Emergency medical, repatriation & other expenses up to €10,000,000
  • Death, loss of limb or eye, permanent disablement up to €25,000

What’s not covered

Travel insurance cover depends on the policy you select, and you may need specialist cover. “Standard policy” exclusions are typically:

  • If you’re over 65 or have a medical condition. Specialist policies exist, and ALL medical issues must be disclosed or you may not be covered.
  • Adventure sports, winter sports and any ‘dangerous activities’ are often not covered as part of a standard policy, and you might need extra cover or a specialist policy.
  • With most policies, you aren’t covered for travel to countries or regions that your country’s government recommends against.
  • Coverage for strikes, civil unrest, earthquakes, acts of terrorism and epidemics/pandemics varies and may not be covered.

Travel Insurance FAQs

How much is travel insurance?

In general, travel insurance in Cyprus costs around €50 for a single trip and €150 for an annual multi-trip cover.

What is the difference between health and travel insurance?

International health insurance is designed to provide a comprehensive level of health care to those relocating from their home country for a sustained period, or those who want guaranteed access to leading practitioners or hospitals around the world.

Travel insurance provides cover for travelers who need emergency treatment while in another country for a shorter space of time.

Do I need Travel Insurance?

It is unlikely that your local health insurance in Cyprus will cover you if you fall ill abroad, although naturally this varies between policies.

Even the policies that do provide medical cover abroad, will only pay for emergency treatment and a few days of hospital stay. For a choice of medical practitioner and access to world-class facilities abroad, you need private health insurance.

Won’t my credit card cover my travel to / from Cyprus?

Rewards credit cards come with complimentary trip protection benefits. These benefits usually reimburse non-refundable travel purchases and cover incidental delay-related expenses. While these benefits are great and cover common trip cancellation claims, you may still want travel insurance in Cyprus for these benefits:

  • No overall annual limit on medical treatment
  • Pre-existing conditions covered
  • Pregnancy cover
  • Medical emergencies for many adventure sports and activities
  • Children under the age of two added at no cost
Why the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) isn’t enough?

The EHIC card is not an alternative to travel insurance.

  • It does not cover any private healthcare or costs such as a return flight to your home country or lost/stolen property,
  • Does not cover your costs if you are traveling for the express purpose of obtaining medical treatment,
  • Does not guarantee free services. As each country’s healthcare system is different, services that cost nothing at home might not be free in another country
